A Blog’s Voice

Today, I’m going to start by showcasing BlissByHeather’s beautiful wristlet, The Modern Patchwork Wristlet Purse (Camera or Gadget Case) in Pretty Pinks. I love the color combination and I wish I had the courage to mix fabrics the way she does. I think the wristlet, as suggested, makes a great camera or gadget case. I’ve read that people more organized than myself carry smaller bags inside their large bags. This benefits them in two ways, they can easily change purses by just moving the small bag of essentials into the large bag and if they only need a small bag, everything is right there. I think this wristlet would be perfect for those tasks. An added feature is the bright colors. Often small bags are dark colors, which are hard for me to find in my purse. These “pretty pinks” would stand out in my otherwise dark bag and I would be able to easily find whatever I’ve stored in the bags.
Oh, and a BIG congratulations to Heather for being featured in this month’s Bust Magazine. Read all about it at her blog. That’s quite an accomplishment.

I read a lot of blogs, visit several forums, and spend an awful lot of time on the internet. I have a group of favorite blogs in a wide variety of genres that I read on a daily basis. These include scrapbooking blogs, daddy blogs, professional photographer blogs, random celebrity blogs, d-list celebrity blogs, design blogs, clothing blogs, round-the-world travelers blogs, expat blogs, etsy blogs, dawanda blogs, travel blogs, food blogs, budget blogs, craft blogs, hotel blogs, mommy blogs, and organization blogs. I know a lot of people who are interested in blogs also read a wide variety and there’s always those few that you really love. The ones you hope update frequently.
I think I’ve been actively reading blogs since about 2005, maybe a little earlier. In 2005 started bookmarking blogs of strangers, two of the first were onegoodbumblebee and aliedwards. I read a lot, but rarely commented. I didn’t have my own blog and I felt that comments should be from people who have a blog or a website. It makes the comment more reputable and creates a sense of community. If you leave a comment and don’t leave a way for the world to find you, it’s like leaving a voicemail message without a return phone number.
So, I think one of the reasons I may have started travelturtle is to create a web persona that I can link to comments I may want to make on blogs. To be a part of the community, instead of just a viewer. I have a long way to go before I am completely comfortable in this world, but it’s been pretty fun so far.
A strange and unexpected thing happened though as I started to become a part of the blogging community. I’ve realized that I really want to hear the author’s voice - the physical voice. What does it sound like? Do they have a strong accent, are they high-pitched? This has been bothering me for the past few days. Maybe that’s one reason blogher is so popular, it’s an opportunity for everyone to hear each other’s voices. Hmm… maybe one day.

Love this little wristlet - I love to have lot of little bags to varry in one BIG bag, but I wouldn’t call myself very “organized”.
I feel a lot like you do about blogging - I read blogs for YEARS and would rarely comment. Now that I have a blog I feel like I belong to the blogging community. Although, as a blogger, every little comment I get is cherished, so i wish i had de-lurked a lot sooner to give my favorite bloggers props.
(I just discovered onegoodbumblebee recently and also added her as a flickr contact…. GREAT stuff).
What a fun blog…very informative and easy to read!!!! I love your photos at flickr.
