A Real Turtle Dream
Francis Ford Coppola’s Turtle Inn in Belize symbolizes so many things I love in life: a beautiful beach, perpetual warm weather, close to activity, owned by a great filmmaker, and “Turtle” is in the name. I’ve never stayed there, but I feel I can and should recommend it anyway. Here’s why:
First, let’s look at Belize as a whole. It’s amazingly close to the United States, so it’s relatively cheap to fly to. English is the national language. It appeals to a huge variety of people. Nature lovers can see jungles, caves, beaches and butterflies. Adventure seekers can kayak between islands, hike, and climb. Historians can discover ancient mayan ruins and visit national museums. Most inviting though are the beautiful beaches on the caribbean.
On one of these beaches is where the Turtle Inn rests. From this point, many of Belize’s highlights are available. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s owned by a celebrity (who’s related to Nicholas Cage, Sofia Coppola, and Jason Schwartzman!) and sometimes celebrity owned things are just more expensive. That’s because they like it nice.
