And so it ends…

Late fall and winter is my favorite time in Germany.

Especially the last week of November and the first few weeks of December because the Christmas Markets are in full swing. They’ll continue until this Friday, but today was the last weekend day of Christmas Markets. And I’m a little sad. Shops are closed on Sunday and having the alternative of going to a Christmas Market instead was (or at least has been for the past 4 weeks) a great option.

This past week, we headed to the beautiful town of Erfurt, which has one of the nicest Christmas Markets in Germany.

What is so awesome about this particular Christmas Market is it’s size. This, I believe, is the main Christmas Market for the town, but there were three or four smaller ones on the 15 minute walk from our hotel to this place. We took that walk every evening because there’s nothing like a huge ferris wheel in front of a huge cathedral. There were so many food options, but I was particularly drawn to the fresh waffles — I had them every night! Maybe it’s a good thing there won’t be any more Christmas Markets in my immediate future.

We were fortunate to have a great view from our hotel room. I realized that when we stay in hotels we often end up with a room facing a brick wall, or in a city where all buildings are about the same height. Our hotel is significantly taller than the 4-5 story buildings in Erfurt, so we could see out and over. My son loved it.

Who am I kidding, we all loved it.

Less than a week until Christmas, I really should share my DD progress (I’m up to page/day 16 – not too bad!)
