Apalachicola, Florida

I have been reading SO much about Apalachicola, FL lately. I’ve driven thru this really cute town several times and I’m determined to go back soon. Maybe that’s why I notice it everywhere I go. Cookie Mag posted a recommendation to the Gibson Inn in Apalachicola last year and since the town’s a quaint town, I greatly appreciated the advice. Take a look at how cute the hotel is:

Isn’t it awesome? Don’t you want to stay there? I do!

I also decided to get an idea of what I wanted to do while there. It’s the oyster capitol of Florida, but since I don’t care for oysters that much, I might just check out a sailing tour. In town, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and cultural activities. I will make sure to include the Apalachicola Museum of Art, John Gorrie Museum State Park (John Gorrie invented the ice machine), and Artemis Gallery to pick up some souvenirs.

I don’t know when I’m going to make it up there, but their calendar of events makes me want to go to at least 3 events in the next 3 months! The first weekend in October is a community yard sale downtown. It’s hard to find a quality yard sale in Florida, but I have a feeling this yard sale will have more than last season’s Target sales. At the end of October there’s the oldest seafood festival in Florida. But it’s not all about the Seafood, it’s also the arts, crafts and entertainment. In early December there’s, what seems to be, a farmer’s market with some great Christmas-themed, Apalachicola created items for sale. Maybe I should just move there for the next three months.

  • YES! I agree ~ I would love to stay there too! This looks like a wonderful place to plant yourself for a nice long weekend! Wish I lived in Florida so I could just talk the hubby into a little drive, but alas, we live in Virginia! Have lots of friends in FL and do travel there every year, so will put this on our current “wish list” ~ thanks for sharing the info!

Don’t feel bad Nancy, I live in Florida and haven’t made it up there in about 10 years!

I forgot to mention the best part about this place in my post, IT’S AFFORDABLE!!! There’s a sale going on right now so it’s under $100, but it’s normally around $150/night.
