Travel Turtle will one day soon comment full time on the combination of craft and travel. In the meantime, craftzine.com’s article on french craft books give insight into parisian and provencal art. I haven’t looked at the books myself, as I’m not so good with a sewing machine yet, but I love the traditional french styles and color combinations.
P.S. Typically prices from the US to Paris become more affordable if traveling in October/November and you purchase the flight ticket the 3 days after Labor Day! Also, being shoulder season the crowds and the weather is more reasonable.
