Life, My Life
Over the last weekend I went over to the beach and during the drive I was thinking of my facebook status. Strange, eh? Then I thought that I should change my status to say that I am going to be a more active participant in my own life. I didn’t really know what that meant, but I liked the way it sounded and I figured it to imply that I was going to enjoy everything, make every moment count all of that stuff. I opted to not change my facebook status to that statement because it seemed to forced and I like more realistic things like, “TurtleAnn is eating soup… yum.”
Last week I saw Gwenyth Paltrow on Oprah and really loved some of the things she had to say. When she talked about her body, she said she works hard for it. She eats what she wants, but she has to work out and she has to work out hard because it doesn’t come naturally anymore. She also went on a driving trip around Spain with Mario Batali and enjoyed the meals the Spanish people have to offer. You can tell she really enjoys life and living. Sure it’s easy to enjoy like when you have a lot of money, but I can still enjoy life even if I’m not movie-star-rich. I might not have a personal trainer who will make sure I do the 500 crunches I need to do, but I also don’t have a famous chef guiding me around Spain making me indulge in pure straight-to-the-thighs meals. And I don’t have to worry about paparazzi.
So, where am I going with this? Gwenyth Paltrow has started a website. It’s called goop and it’s not completely ready yet, but I really like her opening statement which says:
My life is good because I am not passive about it. I want to nourish what is real, and I want to do it without wasting time. I love to travel, to cook, to eat, to take care of my body and mind, to work hard. I love being a mother who has to overcome my bad qualities to be a good mother. I love being in spaces that are clean and nice… (go to the site to read the rest)
I signed up for goop’s newsletter because I like where she’s going with this. It sounds like it will help me achieve the facebook status of being a more active participant in my own life.
