Shanghai, blurry nights
Our tour guide in Shanghai found out I was going to go to Hong Kong a couple of days after I was in Shanghai. He told me that Hong Kong was a more beautiful city and that I would definitely like it more. I told him that was almost impossible. Shanghai’s architecture appeals to me more than any other city I’ve ever visited. It was a feast for the eyes. I couldn’t stop pointing at the architectural structures. Especially at night, with all the lights and people. Sure, it’s a very commercial, but it is stunning.
From the Bund, you can look across the River over onto the very modern Pudong. I took these pictures before I could really figure out night photography on my camera, and as my battery was dying, so I was in a hurry.

The colorful building, with the spherical top, is the Oriental Pearl Tower. It’s going to become a regular feature on this blog soon. I have included it in my new header which will be on the site by the end of the month.

A cool thing about The Bund is that it is a walkway along this river with the views above and if you turn around from this point, it looks like you are in western Europe:

This street has many buildings from the former British Settlement that now houses various industries from around the world. It looks like the building I took a picture of has a German flag flying over it. I like the juxtaposition of the old and new, the extremity of quantity… it’s not just a couple of skyscrapers, there’s a lot; there aren’t just a few european buildings, but over 50, and the comfort of walking on a path along the river to take in both sights.
While Hong Kong had it’s own style and uniqueness, which I will post about in a few days, there was something special about Shanghai that makes me love it more than anywhere else.
