Holiday Cards

I worked on some handmade cards for the holiday this weekend. Thought I’d show a sneak peak of the fronts of the cards and throw a question out there to you:

How do you take GOOD pictures of cards??

Why can’t I take a good picture of items or products? I’ve read every tutorial, I’ve taken two classes. Anyone have any tips that really worked for you? I want to be able to take better jewelry, paper, and felt products pictures.

In the meantime… here’s the glimpse:

Preparing For the Holidays

If you are looking to make a lot of your gifts this year, hear are a couple of resources that you might be interested in. First up, a holiday card.

Lisa gives a great step-by-step tutorial on how to make this fantastic card. You can change the shapes and colors to apply to another holiday. I just might have to give this one a try.

If you know someone who often has to travel for business, this felt travel frame would make a unique and thoughtful gift. Nini Makes’ picture heavy tutorial will help you through the process.

Here’s a great gift idea from The Long Thread. An Owl BAG!!! Isn’t it so adorable?

The Long Thread also features links to other great tutorials, like this one from Anna Maria Horner… a towel toter.

So, use your time wisely if you want to make a lot of your gifts this year. Any of the above projects will definitely make your friends or family happy.

P.S. All photo credit goes to the tutorial’s individual link.

Holiday Cards: Letterpress Edition

Yeah, I know it’s early. I do think it’s good to get started on the holiday cards a bit early. Especially if you’ve taken the handmade pledge to buy/make handmade gifts this holiday season. If you are buying them, start looking now. Who knows when you’ll find something you love… and then discover that they’re no longer being made? It’s like that Alanis Morrissette song:

It’s like finding the card of your dreams on etsy, and then seeing that it’s all sold out. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?”

Anywhere, here are some beauties you should bookmark until you are ready to buy.

Let it Snow, Set of 8, $16 by DingbatPress

Portable Mistletoe, Set of 6, $12 by ArmatoDesign

Happy Holidays from our House to Yours (3 versions: Tent, Trailer, and City), $4 for a pair by Mrletterspress

(I do wish they had a suburbs version, maybe that one’s coming up.)

If you have any other letterpress holiday card love, please let me know in the comments!
